The subregional meeting on effect-oriented activities in the countries of Eastern and South-eastern Europe, held in September 28-October 1 in Baia Mare, Romania, was the 7th in the serial started in 1997 on the initiative of the representatives of Russian Federation. The previous editions were consecutively organized in Russia (Pushchino, 1997, 1999, 2004), Moldova (Chisinau, 2001), the Ukraine (Sudak, 2002) and Belarus (Minsk, 2003). The main purposes of these meetings are to push forward understanding of the importance of effects oriented activities, to catalyse the initiation of similar activities in other countries, and thus to help installation of NFCs or nomination of responsible scientists.
